Out of 100 foods that arrive at our table, 71 are related to bees. The pollination they perform helps produce food. It is a known problem that bees are disappearing. After all, the causes are multiple, pesticides, deforestation and the less space they have to survive. To reverse this situation, a bee sanctuary was set up in Guatemala.
They created a sanctuary for bees that could reverse the danger of extinction
The death of bees is so worrying that measures to protect them have been urgently needed. The forecast shows that they will be gone by the middle of this century. With them, many of the foods that make up our diet for healthy eating would also disappear.
A non-governmental organization made decisions to protect the bees. So he created a bee sanctuary in Guatemala. The organization is called BeeHub Guate and has inaugurated Bee Mountain. For this he used land in the Green Rush Natural Park in Villa Canales.
What is Bee Mountain?
It is the first sanctuary for local and other bees. Other pollinating insects are also found here. The sanctuary has 25 beehives with bees that they saved. They are bees that have been condemned to die for various circumstances. They are also distinguished by the fact that they produce honey.
BeeHub Guate’s bee rescue program implemented a bee protection program for producers. In addition to the beehives, special nests are also on the program. These are intended for lonely and indigenous bees, which are also seriously threatened with extinction.
These nests are real hotels for bees that are not honey species. However, there are species that excel at being excellent pollinators. All insects that arrive at the sanctuary come from deforested or urban areas. A rescue program created by the same organization is in place.
The organization is also responsible for educating and raising awareness
BeeHub Guate fulfills several functions:
- Create a sanctuary for over a million bees.
- Promote environment-related education.
- Develop courses, lectures and workshops.
- Encourage beehive sponsorship.
They also run “conservation tours” where visitors can walk through the sanctuary. They can also take part in the tasks they carry out on their land. For these tours, visitors are protected with specially designed suits, such as those used by honey or wax collectors.
The sanctuary is open to all types of visitors, with special attention given to welcoming students and children in order to raise awareness. The program also created a kind of comic strip so that the little ones understand the importance of bees in nature.
Another task of the organization in the region is to plant dozens of flowers and plants of various species. The aim is to feed the bees and create a suitable habitat. The first protection area for bees has a clearly defined goal beyond the interests of the market. The aim is to create protectionist awareness of one of the most valuable insects on our planet.
