It’s a terrible disease. So science continues to look for ways to combat this. This creates a new possibility against cancer. A compound in green tea can cause cancer cells to self-destruct. This discovery is expected to be applied to new drugs for those fighting the disease.
What is EGCG?
It’s an antioxidant called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). It’s in green tea leaves. It can force cancer cells to self-destruct by producing p53 protein molecules.
It will be verified by the study released in nature communication. The p53 gene controls the production of the protein that is responsible for the cell’s self-destruction mechanism. This is the case when your DNA is seriously damaged. Mutations in this gene can occur in different types of cancer. As a result, the tumor may even become more resistant to chemotherapy.
However, each case is different. Sometimes the p53 gene can be left unchanged, but its activity is reduced due to mutations in other parts of the DNA. Scientists tried to find a way to reactivate p53 in these cases. They carried out experiments with cancer cell cultures. A) Yes they could watch that when EGCG molecules were actively combined with p53, that protein was activated. And the cancer cells destroyed themselves.
‘Both EGCG and MDM2 bind to the same site in p53, the N-terminal domain. EGCG competes with a protein called MDM2. When EGCG binds to p53, the protein is not broken down by MDM2. Therefore, the level of p53 increases with the direct interaction with EGCG and this means that there is more p53 for anti-cancer function. This is a very important interaction, ”said Professor Chunyu Wang. He did this from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the USA.
Science seems to have found a new way to fight cancer in nature. Rigorous studies and tests hope to confirm this hope.
