China’s new moon car

What is it about? From the prototype of a Chinese lunar vehicle designed for manned missions planned from 2030. It is now in its initial phase of development. The images of China’s new lunar car were released and it is surprising.

This is said in a statement issued by the Chinese Academy of Space Technology (CAST) on November 15. The lunar rover features a modular and foldable structure. It is equipped to transport two astronauts in manned operations. A concept image published by CAST illustrates the vehicle, which has the appearance of an open-top off-road vehicle and incorporates elements of ancient Chinese cars.

Automaker GAC Group and several universities in Hong Kong and across the country contributed to the design of China’s new moon car. This was revealed by the CAST, cited by Xinhua. The Shanghai Academy of Space Flight Technology (SAST) is carrying out a parallel development program for China’s lunar rover.

The manned lunar rover is designed for rapid movement across uneven lunar landscapes. It is expected to have precise navigation and positioning. Also, improved security support and continuous real-time communication with Earth. In addition, it will collaborate with the lunar infrastructure to execute integrated man-machine exploration missions on the surface of the Moon.

Missions underway

China is moving forward with its mission to land astronauts on the Moon in 2030. Production and ground testing of prototypes of the Long March-10 carrier rocket are underway. Also, projects such as the Mengzhou manned spacecraft and the Lanyue lunar lander. The space suit that the astronauts will wear is underway. CAST is responsible for developing both Mengzhou and Lanyue.

The Chinese Manned Space Agency has announced that a group of 10 astronauts will participate in a training regimen. It will be intended for manned lunar landing missions. Astronauts are expected to gain skills in maneuvering spacecraft and operating lunar rovers.
