Trovants are found in one place in the world. It is a city in Romania that attracts scientists and tourists as well. Everyone looks there to see the trovants. The city is called Costeti and is located in the Valcea region in southern Romania. UNESCO declared the stones that form a monument to humanity. Tourists travel to Costeti to visit the Trovants Museum.
Properties of growing stones
The people of Costeti baptized them with the name Trovants, which means “stones that grow” in Romanian. At first glance, they look like stones like everyone else. However, scientists say they have properties that make them unique around the world.
It is estimated that its age is around 6 million years. At first they were small pebbles, but over time they grew. Scientists estimate it takes a thousand years to grow four or five centimeters. Not only do they grow, they also move and appear to be breathing.
Scientists analyzed the formation of the trovants
They took out several samples to analyze and observe under a microscope. They discovered that there are rings inside that resemble those of a tree. So they could calculate his age. They also developed various theories about how they grow.
They also discovered what its composition is like. The core of the Trovants is very tough. It is surrounded by various layers of sand that have settled over time. In this way they grow, and thanks to this, some rocks reach a height of ten meters.
Its shape can change even after very heavy rainfall. A chemical reaction takes place between the sand layers and the calcium carbonate contained in the rainwater. This reaction creates an internal pressure in the trovants, which leads to an increase in their volume. Bumps appear on the surface, so the growth can be felt with the naked eye.
There are scientists who believe that growing stones can also breathe and multiply. Breathing should be extremely slow and last up to three weeks at a time. They even make sure that you can hear a quiet heartbeat with special devices. Mobility is also very slow, about 2.5 millimeters every two weeks, and they leave marks that have been shaped over the centuries.
The origin of the Trovants is uncertain
It is known for sure that they are very old, but one can only speculate about their origin. Some believe that an earthquake millions of years ago removed them from the center of the earth. Others think they came from another planet or even a distant galaxy
There are also those who let their imaginations run wild and believe that they are related to goblins or fairies and the world of elementals. But also the version of the shamans and sorcerers who claim that the growing stones are alive and have a soul is added. No matter what the truth is, it is another miracle that our planet offers us and that everyone wants to know.
