Disney prepares an Amazon Prime-like multi-service offering

Disney Plus

Just like Amazon Prime subscribers have at their disposal a wide catalog of services grouped under a premium model of a single monthly or annual payment (free deliveries, music streaming, movie and series streaming, infinite online storage of images and documents…) Disney is considering offering its own premium multiservice service which would encompass various categories, going beyond the current Disney+ platform that is limited to streaming some of the best movies, series and documentaries with great success, having already surpassed in number of subscribers to Netflix, the great reference in the sector.

Disney could group in a single monthly subscription different services, from its Disney+ streaming platform to annual tickets to theme parks or access to exclusive merchandising

For subscribers, the advantages would be obvious: having offers and discounts for grouping subscriptions. But we must not forget another of the benefits that would bring to the company itself to offer this possibility of a premium subscription to its customers: increase the information available on their consumption habitsand to be able to cross-sell your products and services.

And the fact is that Disney has long since been more than just moviesthe project is still in its early stages, so there is no estimate of the age range it would be aimed at, the services it would include, the date on which it would start operating, or the price. And, of course, the name “Disney Prime” is not definitive either, used only for the purpose of exemplifying by its parallelism with Amazon Prime the characteristics that a subscription of this nature could have.

Kristina Schake, head of communications at Disney has confirmed that work is underway to develop a general multi-service subscription program capable of “personalize the consumer experience with relevant experiences, entertainment and products.”but this is only one of several ideas being considered by the company.

It should be recalled that Disney currently offers several subscription services, such as D23 Fan Club (the 23 is for 1923, the year the company was founded), which for $99.99 per year for one person or $129.99 per year for two people allows the possibility to purchase exclusive merchandising, subscription to a quarterly magazine, discount on tickets to the annual D23 Expo event. Annual passes are also available at its amusement parks.
