DuckDuckGo is best known for its search engine, which is characterized by a high respect for user privacy, but also has a browser app version for mobile (iOS and Android). However, the company is now preparing its leap to laptops and desktops with a desktop application that promises, continuing with the spirit that characterizes him, offer a “robust privacy protection”.
DuckDuckGo offers both its own search engine and browser app for iOS and Android
This protection of privacy, DuckDuckGo’s hallmark, manifests itself in aspects such as searches or email, where unlike other options guarantees that searches and queries are completely anonymous and no user data is stored. These features have been so popular among Internet users that they have made it the second most used search engine on the Internet for searches from mobile devices.
Gabriel Weinberg, CEO of DuckDuckGo, has informed through a statement that the desktop version of the browser will have the same features as the mobile app version, paying special attention to offer users a “redefinition of expectations in relation to online privacy” dispensing with complex configurations. There will be a single, robust level of privacy protection with all the guarantees consubstantial to DuckDuckGo’s established track record, which will come already enabled by default.
In this sense, the blocking of possible hidden trackers before they even get to loada substantial departure from the operation of similar systems in other browsers, which block them after they have already loaded on the system. This is done through extensions that identify and block such content, a feature that DuckDuckGo will bring to mobile next year.
Similarly these types of trackers will also be prevented in the incoming email in the mobile version, although it is not yet known if such a feature will also apply to the desktop version of the browser.
The development of this desktop version of the browser includes a revamp of its interface in order to update its aesthetics offering a more modern and simplified look, as well as an improvement in local search results, maps and directions, filtering searches by date ranges or instant response to translations.
