Google has announced the closure of its Cameos appan application that allowed celebrities to answer the most frequently asked questions on Google’s search engine.
Google has closed more than a hundred apps throughout its history
Cameos by Google thus joins the list of more than a hundred apps that Google has closed throughout its history. According to the company, it will be during the next February when this application, which allowed celebrities to make their video responses in a short and simple way, will cease to exist.
Specifically, it will do so on February 17, as pointed out by Google in an email sent to users of the application. In addition, the engineer Barry Schwartz, Google employee and responsible for the development of the application -and one of the celebrities who also participated with their videos- has confirmed the closure through his Twitter account.

The “Cameos by Google” app had been downloaded more than 50,000 times from the Google Play Store to date, but that doesn’t mean it was widely used. In fact, it is estimated that only a few thousand people could be using the service, and it is for this reason that Google has decided to close it.
In addition, Google also did not allow a direct download, since, in order to make the app more exclusive, downloading was by invitation only. This has undoubtedly also slowed down its development as it has not gained popularity and the invitations were not priced as on other occasions when access to an application was limited, as for example, when Clubhouse was launched, which did generate great expectation.
And all this despite the fact that great personalities had been hired or contacted by Google to offer their answers. Among others, Gordon Ramsey, James Franco or Kylian Mbappé, had recorded videos for “Cameos by Google”.
It is worth noting, moreover, that the operation of “Cameos by Google” was different from that of another popular app, “Cameo”, with which users can ask celebrities to send them a birthday greeting or a greeting for someone else. Despite the similarity in name, in the case of the Google app users did not have to pay to receive a celebrity’s response to a popular Google search.
