The international Unicode consortium is the organization in charge of maintaining and regulating the official catalog of emojis used in applications for mobile devices, and has just published the Unicode 15.0 version of its standard, which includes 31 new emojis of the total of 271 that it had planned to present during 2022, including different color variations of the same emoji in some cases.
The new emojis include a pink heart or the emblem for WiFi or wireless connections
From the design guidelines for each of these emoticons, different developers or platforms can establish their own versions. Google has just published theirs, shown in the image above.
A pushing hand, an agitated face demonstrating the impact a news item causes on the user, the pink icon of a heart, the emblem of WiFi or wireless connections… are some of the newly arrived emojis.
Some of these incorporations are not completely unprecedented since already last July some of them could be known in their primitive stages. Now that they have been officially approved by the Unicode consortium, it corresponds to the different developers to implement their own versions, adapted to the style that in each application or platform have the emojis.
Operating systems, social networks, programs… subtle differences or great distinctions in terms of design and appearance, in all cases the emoji message is maintained even with these slight variations. In the case of Google in addition to its version of the 31 new emojis it has also made public the new typeface Noto, specific for use in web pagesso that developers can easily implement it in their projects.
In addition Google has presented its first set of animated emojis to be used in the platform’s messaging application. Finally, it has announced that the new emojis will be available at the end of the year in the Android operating system and from 2023 in other Google products.
The rest of platforms and ecosystems (Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung…) will implement their own versions of these new emojis and will be available in the next months.
