The Windows 10 and 11 operating system automatically shuts down when the computer remains inactive for a certain period of time. The purpose is to protect your personal information so that third parties cannot access the data you have stored on your PC.
However, despite the help offered by Windows, it is annoying when your computer locks up when you take a short break or do another task and when you come back, the whole system is closed, forcing you to enter your password again and again. So, if you want to prevent this, here we will teach you how to prevent the operating system from closing automatically.
Methods to prevent Windows from crashing
There are several procedures you can apply to remove the automatic lock, the operating system itself offers what you need to achieve this.
Login options
Removing the login requirement will help you prevent your PC from being locked due to inactivity, do the following:
– Go to Windows “Settings” by clicking on the gear icon pinned to the taskbar. You can also press the Windows + I keys.
– Now go to “Accounts” and select “Login Options”
– In the “Additional settings” section, uncheck the box for “When do you want Windows to ask you to sign in again?” and choose “Never.” Also, uncheck the box for “Dynamic lock.”
Sleep mode
When Windows enters “Sleep Mode,” your computer will be completely locked. To disable this feature, follow these steps:
– Go to Windows “Settings” and enter “System” and choose “Power and battery”
– Click on “Display & sleep” and in each of the boxes that will be displayed choose the option “Never”
Windows Registry
Another feasible alternative to avoid system crashes is to edit the registry files, although this is not a 100% safe procedure. You should only apply this if the other two alternatives do not work on your PC.
– In the Windows Start search box, type “Registry Editor” and select to run it as administrator.
– Double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and go to “Software”
– Now, access the folders named “Policies” – “Microsoft”, both are located in the left panel.
– Right-click on the “Windows” folder and choose “New” – “Key”. The name of the folder you will create should be: DisableAutoLock
– At this point, right-click on the DisableAutoLock folder, go to “New”, select DWORD (32-bit) Value and change the name to NoLockScreen.
– Finally, open the NoLockScreen folder and set the value data to 1. Click “OK” and restart your computer to activate the changes. After completing the procedure, the automatic lock will be disabled.
