The IP address is the identifier of your Internet connection, a kind of driver's license plate that provides more information than you possibly believe. There are various methods to find out what your IP address is, but it is just a string of numbers.
However, if you use a geolocation system for an IP address – yours or someone else's – like the ones we are going to show you in this article, you will be able to access a lot of other interesting information. For example, you will be able to know the Internet provider from which the connection is made, the city from which you are connecting and many other data.
How to know the location of an Internet IP
To find out data about an IP address, you just have to use an app on your mobile phone or access a browser from any device, as we explain below.
Use the IPLocation app to geolocate an IP from your mobile
One option to know the location of an IP is to use the IP2Location application, which is available in the Google Play Store for Android mobiles and in the Apple Store for iOS mobiles. The app has a database created by the same developers that allows geolocation of any IP address.
For example, in Spain alone, IP2Location has more than 29 million IP locations and the location accuracy is 83% correct. Once you download the app, it will ask you to grant it location permissions, although it will not be necessary to consent for the system to work correctly. If you do, it will give you data about your own IP.
If you do not want to grant permission (or want information about any other IP) you can deny it and enter the IP address you are interested in manually to obtain the location. Once this is done, the platform will give you information about the city, postal code, Internet provider and time zone of the IP in question. All this according to the application database.
Use the IP Location portal to geolocate an IP from any device
If you don't want to download an app, you can do the entire process from a web page. You will only need your browser to access https://www.iplocation.net/. Here they will not ask you for any permission, just write the IP address that interests you to obtain its location data and much other information.
