How to remotely access your computer without applications

Remote access to your computer allows you to control and use your programs or access any file from anywhere, via the Internet, while you are away from the office or home.

Enabling remote access is also very useful if you want to offer or receive technical support remotely. In this article, you will learn how to achieve this connectivity without having to install additional applications, using only the functionalities built into your computer.

Set up your remote desktop

You should know that the remote desktop on your computer is disabled, so you will have to go through a manual configuration process to be able to use it. All you have to do is this:

-Open Windows Explorer on your computer.

-Go to the option called “Computer” and then click on “Properties”.

-This will take you to a new window where you should look for an option called “Remote Desktop”, and click there.

-Then, click on “Confirm” and that’s it, you will have enabled this feature.

Configure the ports on your Wi-Fi router

Configuring the ports on your Wi-Fi router is important so that you can remotely access your computer. To do this, follow these simple steps:

– Enter the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, which are the most common gateways to access the router administrator. You can also consult the manufacturer.

-Log in with your username and password. If you don’t know them, try using “admin” in both fields, as this is sometimes the default password. You can also find this information on the label attached to your router or check the user manual.

-Once you have successfully logged in, go to the menu on the left side and look for “Settings” or “Advanced Settings”.

-Locate a section called “Ports” or “Port Forwarding,” this is to open the router’s ports.

-Next, you need to know what your IP address is and put it in the IP field. Where it says “Internal Port” choose 3389 for remote computer and in “Protocol” select both (in some router models you have to do it separately in TCP and UDP ports, but if you have the option of both it also works).

-Once you have it configured, you just have to accept or save the changes.

Access Remote Desktop

With the previously mentioned configuration, everything is ready for you to make the remote connection to your computer.

-You just have to enter the Remote Desktop tool.

-If it is a computer that is on your same local network, you only need to enter the name or local IP address.

-If it is a computer that is not within your network, then you have to check what its public IP is so you can make the connection.
