Plex is a service from Real-time multimedia streamingThis allows users to create a “server” from which they can broadcast live content to other devices connected to the same network. In a nutshell, you can create a Netflix at home with an internet-connected computer from which you can broadcast live content to other devices connected to the same WiFi network, e.g. B. Smartphones, tablets or smart TVs. So you can watch the best movies and series stored on your computer wherever you want.
Plex makes it easy to create a home server with a computer at home.
To create a streaming system with Plex, you first need a computer with the ability to store the content and an internet connection. A Plex account is required at the same time. These accounts are free and the process of creating them is very easy as all you have to do is access the Plex official website and follow the steps that appear on the screen.
Once the account has been created, the application needs to be downloaded. With that in mind, Plex is available for a variety of operating systems such as Windows, Mac, iOS, Chromecast, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, Amazon Fire TV, and various operating systems for SmarTV.
For PCs, the requirements are quite low, as only 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor or higher are required. After installation, server and account setup is done using your preferred desktop browser.
Once configured, the folder or folders in which the content will be saved must be selected. To do this, you need to select the “Settings” option that appears in the top right corner. Pressing this button opens the settings page, which at first glance seems a bit overwhelming due to the multitude of options offered. However, it is very simple as you just have to Select the option «Libraries» that will appear in the “Manage” section.
Several different libraries can be created from here, e.g. B. one for movies, one for series, music, etc. After the appropriate libraries have been created, the folder must be selected in which the content is stored, as can be seen in the following image:
Once the folders are configured, the Content is automatically synchronized. With that in mind, when Plex syncs, it displays information for each piece of content (extracted from various online sources) that includes a description, cover art, and dates about actors, directors, languages, and other data like the audio codec.
After the account has been created and the server has been configured, the Plex application needs to be downloaded to the device that you want to send to. As already mentioned, the application is available for mobile phones, tablets, as well as for Smart TV or Fire Stick TV from Amazon. After downloading, a code will be requested to synchronize with the server and voila. You can now enjoy Netflix at home.
On the other hand, for a while has its own content (Films, series, documentaries and music videos) that can be viewed for free. However, most of this content is in English and has no Spanish subtitles.
