When holding a video conference, users may voluntarily or involuntarily move around, sometimes without even realizing that they are left outside the camera frame. This is one of the most common mistakes when making a video call.
Google Meet’s image re-centering must be enabled by the user himself, as it is disabled by default
There are automated solutions to correct this situation, as happens with Center Stage in some iPad models, but these are functionalities that depend on the hardware, that the tablet has certain front cameras capable of performing this displacement of the framing.
Now at Google Meet they have developed a software-based version that allows. automatically adjust the framing so that the subject always appears correctly centered in the camera, ensuring optimal visibility for all participants in the video conference.
This “re-centering” is performed automatically by Google Meet only once, at the start of the video conference, but the user can activate it manually at any time, which allows, from the application settings menu, reposition the subject in the center of the image. without having to change the position of the webcam.
This is a function that can be activated by any user, i.e. it does not require the intervention of the administrator, but it will be the user himself who must activate it since it appears disabled by default.
This option will be available for all professional Google Workspace accounts, but cannot be used by those who have an account for personal use, so it is configured as a functionality of a markedly professional nature.
With this new feature, Google Meet continues to enhance its tools that provide different utilities to professional users, as is the case with the recently announced transcription of conversations that is sent automatically to Google Docs, containing the entire conversation in text.
