Sundar Pichai is an Indian-American computer scientist, engineer and executive who currently serves as CEO at Alphabet Inc, the parent company of Google. Pichai was born on June 10, 1972 in Madurai, India. In his native country, he studied engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He also has advanced degrees from Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania.
Sundar Pichai, who started as an executive in 2004, is currently CEO of Google and serves on Alphabet’s board of directors.
Sundar Pichai’s work has been instrumental in the development and launch of ChromeOS, Chromebook and the Android operating system. Under his supervision is currently the development of all Google products and platforms, such as Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Workspace, among others.
After studying engineering in India, Sundar Pichai moved to the United States. There, he graduated in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University and earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to earning his MBA at the University of Pennsylvania, Pichai had worked at Allied Materials, a Silicon Valley company, as a product manager.
Later, after graduating in 2002, Sundar Pichai worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. Thanks to his experience, Pichai was hired to work at Google in 2004.

Sundar Pichai joined Google in 2004 to work as vice president of product management. As Laszlo Bock, former vice president of Google’s recruiting department, recalls, Pichai was selected for the position, in addition to his qualifications, because of his “intellectual humility.” In his interview, he admitted to knowing nothing about Gmail, a product whose launch Google had recently announced.
After joining Google he was tasked with the development of the Google Toolbar and subsequently the launch of ChromeOS, took place in 2011 Since then, Google’s browser has grown to become the most used browser in the world, above Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Apple’s Safari. This is one of the most important achievements in Sundar Pichai’s career.
But in addition, in 2013, Pichai took the lead in the development of Android mobile software and only a year later, in 2014, he became supervisor of all Google products.
A year later, with the creation of Alphabet Inc, Sundar Pichai became CEO of Google. Under his leadership, the technology giant has focused on the growth of products such as YouTube and projects such as Google Cloud, as well as the development of Machine Learning and quantum computing.
In 2019, Sundar Pichai was appointed CEO of Alphabet. He accepted that position replacing Larry Page, one of Google’s co-founders.
