Giphy, the popular search engine for GIF files, is not going through its best moment. Acquired by Facebook in May 2020 and integrated into Instagram, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, now the UK anti-competition authorities have indicated that it should be sold, since the company can not agglutinate so many services and put its competitors at a disadvantage.

However, this situation is settled in the offices of the company, while the millions of users of the service are oblivious to this reality and continue to employ GIF files as if nothing.
Despite being files that were very popular in the 90s in the early days of the Internet as we know it today, its use is still tremendously popular, especially in social networks and instant messaging applications, to express a feeling or offer a response with just a few images very quickly.
Taking advantage of the approaching end of the year, Giphy also wanted to join the large number of companies that make annual reviews with the best of the last 12 months. So, just as YouTube points out which are the most watched videos of the year or Spotify shows the most listened to of 2021, Giphy also wanted to release its own ranking of the most used GIF files of the year.
It’s not the first time it’s done this, as back in 2020 Giphy also communicated what the most used GIF files were last year. However, that’s all water under the bridge now.
