Poly Network officials managed to locate and identify the IP address from which the attack was carried out, while at the same time urging cryptocurrency exchanges around the world to block and report any movement that was related to that of the cybercriminal addresses used had to do with.

After the statement was published, the cybercriminal responded, assuring that he was “Ready” to return the money and that they attacked the Poly Network just for fun because they discovered the bug in the system and wanted to point it out in order to fix it. He also found the attack to be challenging and congratulated Poly Network on its security systems.

At the moment, the cybercriminal has returned $ 4,772,297,675 million in cryptocurrencies. A total of 2,654,946,051 million was returned in Ethereum, another 1,107,870,815 in Binance Smart Chain and just over a million dollars in Polygon (MATIC).

This is not the first cryptocurrency theft, as more than $ 7,600 million in cryptocurrencies have been stolen through such attacks since 2011. These thefts will account for 54% of all criminal activity related to cryptocurrencies in 2021, according to Crystal Blockchain.
