Where is the Yilan crater located in its center? It is located 19 kilometers northwest of the city of Yilan County. It is a province of Heilongjiang. It is located in the mountainous area of the southeastern edge of the small Xing’an Mountains. And it’s one of the best-preserved forests in the region.
The structure is a crescent-shaped meteorite impact crater. And that’s very rare on earth, said Chen Ming. He is one of the authors of the article. He is also a researcher at the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry.
Crater laboratory
The details are in the article in the journal. “It was exposed in the early Jurassic granite. The southern third of the crater rim is missing. But other sections are well preserved. The gigantic meteorite impact crater has a diameter of 1.85 kilometers. And they’re 579 meters deep. Its maximum height above the crater floor is 150 meters.
