During the excavations around the Philippi, different elements of seniority were found underground. Among them, the statue of a young male figure embedded in the walls of a public enclosure. In addition, there were remains of roads, workshops, residential structures and a construction to the southwest of the Palaistra. It is believed that it was a public bath, known as Themae.

Camouflaged statue
«The fire security project has contributed new evidence. And these that question the belief maintained so far that Philippi was abandoned after the seventh century ». It was pointed out by the director of antiques of Kavala-Thassos, Stavroula Dadaki.
He added that constructions dating from the IX centuries to the XI dc were identified, this shows that the city remained inhabited during this period. The Greek statue inside a wall could camouflage itself in the works of that stage. Archaeologists plan to perform more excavations inside the city. They plan to focus on a great structure close to the old theater. There was also a partially excavated statue of a young woman embedded in the walls.
Initially founded by tasios such as CRENIDES between 360 and 359 BC, 356 AC was renamed by King Philip II of Macedonia. It was an important city located near the current city of Culta, in the Eastern Macedonia region (Greece).

Earthquakes
This population was a key point for the control of the routes between amphipolis and Neapolis. That section is an important segment of the path that crossed the then Macedonia from east to west. After being colonized by the Romans, the ‘Polis’ was renamed Victrix Philippensium neighborhood.
Philippi saw his decline after being a victim of the Slavic invasions of the late century. These brought as a consequence the ruin of the agrarian economy of Macedonia and was mostly destroyed by a great earthquake around 619.
