There were some problems with this year 2020. The global corona virus pandemic, tropical storms, cyclones, avalanches, earthquakes and now the lobster sleeves are added. Locusts are insects that devastate different places in the world and threaten to end everything on their way.
The problem started with lobster sleeves that destroyed the crop in Africa and moved across the continent. Today Argentina is the epicenter of a true grasshopper army that destroys farms, farmland and grain.
Lobster sleeves cause big problems
Lobster sleeves have more than 40 million insects in just one square kilometer. This amount of lobster consumes the pastures in one day, on which 2000 cattle are fed.
They arrived from Paraguay in mid-May and have already alerted the Brazilian authorities. The locusts of the species Schistocerca Cancellata advance at a speed of 150 kilometers per day and consume all the vegetables that they find along the way. It is a grasshopper that feeds on wild and cultivated vegetables
Since its appearance, the National Service for Health and Quality of Agricultural Food in Argentina (SENASA) has carried out spreading work. For this purpose, approved products are used that do not pollute the plants. It is important to be very careful with the product with which they are dispersed. It cannot be harmful to the environment. Pollution damages crops and also lobster-fed birds.
This organism also warned residents of urban areas that insects are not dangerous to animal and human health. They also warned that they are not carriers of the disease. This reassures the population for fear of the Covid 19 pandemic.
The lobster sleeves move forward at high speed
In the past four weeks, the lobster race in South America has covered more than a thousand kilometers. It is currently located in the Entre Ríos province on the border with Brazil.
When the winter temperature drops, the movement of the insects slows down. The Argentine and Brazilian authorities are currently expecting to be 190 kilometers from the border that the two countries have in common.
Brazil has already ordered a phytosanitary emergency in the states of Río Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. In this case, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has already applied to import agricultural products in order to eliminate the plague. The Brazilian states are large grain producers and come from a long drought, so they cannot lose the harvest.
It is planned to use more than 400 aircraft to spray the products with sprayers. Both the Argentine and Brazilian authorities agree that the formation of these lobster sleeves is becoming more common. The cause is estimated to be climate change. Due to the increase in temperature and humidity, they multiply with greater intensity each year.
