Sonic 2: The Movie, Morbius, Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets, The lost city, The man from the north, Veneciafrenia… April is just around the corner and the movie releases it brings with it only confirm that the pandemic is still there, but it doesn’t seem to matter as much as it did a few months ago. And thank you. That is why we have resumed this section and invite you to take a look at the list of movies we have selected, as long as you are in Spain.
Indeed, as the Spanish media that we are, we collect the movie premieres that arrive in these placesalthough more than one and more than two, especially those coming from Hollywood, are already in the billboards of half the world. As a sample, those we have mentioned at the beginning of the article. As you can also see, almost everything is commercial cinema, and MC is not a niche of movie lovers who love the seventh art without further ado: here we weigh more the big releases, the popcorn movies or movies that, without being so, promise an interesting experience for most viewers.
So, even though there are several eye-catching movie releases, only one fits in the header (the same happens in our section of New VOD releasesand that one is, as crappy as it may seem at first glance, which it seems to be because it is,  Sonic 2: The Movie. So? It turns out that the first Sonic installment was a success, the character is endearing and we are talking about a movie for all audiences, so we change a little bit the roll of last week with The Batman. We begin..
Premiere on April 1.
We begin this monthly review of movie premieres with Sonic 2: The Movieready to debut in Spanish cinemas tomorrow. Did you like the first one? Well, it looks like this one will be more of the same: Jeff Fowler returns to direct and also James Marsden (the Cyclops of the first trilogy of X-Men) and Jim Carrey (no need for introductions, right?) in the role of the villain. Of course, at the forefront of everything is the particular hedgehog created by Sega, who on this occasion will be accompanied by other characters from the videogame such as Knuckles and Tails.
Premiere on April 1.
Marvel superheroes storm the billboard starting tomorrow, although not in the usual way: played by Jared Leto (the last Joker of DC’s superheroic universe) Morbius is the most cheerful vampire in the whole world and, within the particular universe shared by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, the one headed by the Spider-Man and Venom movies (with the latter he has starred in some of the crossovers most memorable comic book crossovers), is being shown for the first time on the big screen… with a terrible result, judging by the first reviews.
Premiere on April 1.
Aren’t you at all interested in teenage fantasies? Don’t worrythere’s something for everyone from day one: Mass is one of those movies that came out in 2021 but has not reached theaters until now and that, unlike the other two, has not collected anything but praise, nominations and several awards wherever it has gone. It is a short distance drama whose trailer gives you everything you need to know.
Premiere on April 8.
More fantasy, and it is that Fantastic Animals: The Secrets of Dumbledore opens on Friday of next week.  Not that this rehash based on the magical world created by J.K. Rowling has piqued the interest of the original Harry Potter franchise, but if you saw the previous ones and feel like it… Plus, they go with the woke for all: Mads Mikkelsen replaces Johnny Depp in the role due to personal scandals, Dumbledore comes out of the closet… The previews, however, are being rather lukewarm by the specialized critics.
Premiere on April 13.
On April 13, one of the films that has achieved the best box office so far this year without being superheroes will be released in theaters: The Lost Citya big-time adventure film starring Sandra Bullock (no introduction needed, right?) and Channing Tatum (The Fate of Jupiter, The Hateful Eight), with appearances by other well-known faces such as Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt. In short, real popcorn cinema to let your mind go blank and let it all flow.
Premiere on April 13.
That same week also sees the premiere of ***Ambulance***, the new film by Michael Bay, and you know what that means: non-stop action, which is what the American director has been accustomed to for more than three decades, not in vain we are talking about the man responsible for classics like Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, Transformers and a long etcetera, also in other genres. Leading the action this time is Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Prisoners, Spider-Man: Far From Home).
Premiere on April 13.
In order not to repeat ourselves more than necessary, something completely different from what has been said so far: The set of keysa remake Spanish remake in feature film format of the Mexican series (you have it on Amazon Prime Video if you are interested) of the same name in which a group of friends get naughty and pose a game of swinging. For those who want it.
Premiere on April 22.
The penultimate week of April will see the release of among others The man from the northa Viking movie starring an authentic Viking of our time as Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd (The Legend of Tarzan, True Blood), who is accompanied in his Nordic adventure by a good cast of actors: Nicole Kidman (The Others, Moulin Rouge!), Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho), Willem Dafoe (The Last Temptation of Christ, Platoon) or Ethan Hawke (Gattaca, The society of the dead poets); directed by Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse, The Witch). It looks good.
Premiere on April 22.
Another highlight that the cinemas have in store for us this April is the release of Venicefreniathe new film by Ãlex de la Iglesia, who is back to his old ways since his 2017 release El bar -and with the honorable exception of 30 coins with a horror film set in the city of masks… But it is not just horror, it moves into the realm of horror slasherso we will have to see how the director from Bilbao performs in this subgenre that is as exploited as it is difficult to review.
Premiere on April 22.
If you’re a fan of Channing Tatum you’re in luck, because the American actor is releasing not one movie in April, but two, and although The Lost City looks much more appealing a priori, Dog. A Wild Ride is preceded by good reviews after its passage through theaters in the United States, which has its merit: it is a film in which the co-protagonist is a dog not friendly at all… at first. By the way: Tatum not only stars in the story, he also directs it.
Premiere on April 22.
You remember, don’t you? The emblematic Parisian cathedral of Notre Dame burned for real three years ago -this April- due to an error in the restoration of the building and the news traveled the globe for days and even weeks. Well,  Notre Dame burns is the film recreation of this event. Directed by the veteran French filmmaker (Enemy at the gates, Seven Years in Tibet, The name of the rose).
Premiere on April 29th.
Finally, the last Friday of April will be released in theaters Downton Abbey: A New Eraa film derived from the now legendary British series about the high society of the early and mid-twentieth century. A period drama that returns to theaters with the cast of the original series almost intact. If you are interested, Lord and Lady Grantham will open the doors of their home once again.
