The super fast robot dog

It was done by some Chinese engineers from Zhejiang University. They announced that a prototype robot dog has achieved an important milestone. He covered the distance of 100 meters in less than 10 seconds. The super fast robot dog is an amazing machine.

The Heibao 2.0 machine weighs 38 kilograms and is 0.63 meters high. It reaches a remarkable maximum stride frequency of 5 times per second. This makes it one of the fastest quadruped robots in the world. Images of the robot dog in motion have been posted on the T-Time HK Facebook account.

Articulated knees

The project was inspired by the joints and legs of animals such as black panthers and gerbils. Thus they improved the robot’s high-speed movement in terms of strength, flexibility, power, precision and fluidity. The team cleverly placed springs in his knee joints to serve as shock absorbers. This was said by Jin Yongbin, a researcher at the institute, quoted by Xinhua.

There was the challenge of the robot’s shins breaking at a running speed of 6 meters per second. That’s why they developed carbon fiber shins inspired by the limbs of the desert rodent jerboa. They increased stiffness by 135 percent with only a 16 percent increase in weight.

The robot dog is also equipped with “running shoes” modeled after cheetah claws. Improves your grip performance by 200 percent. AI machine learning allows the robot dog to adjust its gait in specific situations.

New challenge

Now, the team has developed advanced high-power-density, high-load motor controllers. They will lay the foundation for the next generation of industrial quadruped robots. “By integrating software and components, we created a prototype in just three months.” It was reported by Wang Hongtao, director of the institute and professor at Zhejiang University.

Heibao 2.0, the super-fast robot dog, now surpasses most humans in speed races. But it still lags behind fast land runners like cheetahs, ostriches and wildebeest. In the future, the research team plans to better understand the gap between robots and living organisms, to potentially even overcome their mobility.
