This is the Rabbit R1: price and availability

It has been a long time since a truly disruptive technological gadget was presented, which was not part of any traditional product category, and which captured the attention of experts, techies and the general public.

However, within the framework of CES – the largest technology fair in the world, held in Las Vegas – a device has been presented that attracts everyone's attention because it promises to revolutionize the way we interact every day with our mobile applications.

It is called R1 and has been launched by a small Artificial Intelligence startup called Rabbit. In just a few hours, 10,000 units were sold out. that were on sale and will not be put into circulation again until spring, which has increased the expectation even more. What makes this product so attractive? We tell you everything about Rabbit's R1 in this article.

What is Rabbit's R1 and what is it for?

It is a revolutionary device that works with Artificial Intelligence and that promises to manage all your mobile applications for you. It doesn't want to replace the smartphone – at least not yet, according to Rabbit CEO Jesse Liu – but the gadget has a lot of potential.

It is a device that fits in the palm of your hand and has a shape reminiscent of a traditional television, with a 2.88-inch touch screen. It incorporates a rotating wheel that acts as a button and allows you to navigate or speak to the device's voice assistant. It also has a rotating camera to take photos and videos, but it is much more than that, as we will see later.

It has its own operating system (Rabbit OS) and its processor is a 2.3 GHz MediaTek. It has 4 GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage. Its battery – according to Rabbit – lasts all day.

But… what is it for? Basically, for the same thing as a mobile phone, but without having to download and use apps. Thanks to its assistant, it is able to respond to the needs of its owner through what Rabbit calls the Large Action Model (LAM). In other words, it is a “long action model” that allows you to understand and learn to perform actions using apps as a human would. This way, you won't have to use the apps, but the R1 will do it for you.

For example, as shown in your promotional video, you could be in charge of organizing a trip, without having to access the different apps (flight booking, accommodation booking, car rental, etc…) and give you all the work made to its owner. It could also play music without having to have Spotify installed, even if it used the services of the music streaming platform. And so, using any app available on the market, but without even having to install it.

The Rabbit R1 works through an Internet connection, either Wifi or 4G, and does not require being connected to a smartphone. You can include your own SIM card to manage your connectivity.

By having its own camera, which rotates 360 degrees, it makes recommendations and suggestions about what it sees in the environment. For example, if you focus on the refrigerator, R1 could be asked what can be cooked with the food in the refrigerator. The camera would scan the products and Rabbit would suggest recipes.

R1 will also be able to order you a taxi (checking whether it is cheaper or not to do so in VTC such as Bold, Uber or Cabify), recommend a series to watch, order your favorite food at home for the time you want and much more. As if you were yourself using each app you have installed on your phone, but without having to download anything to your Rabbit R1.

And all this using Artificial Intelligence, which means that the device will learn the tastes of its owner and will increasingly offer more precise responses.

How much does the Rabbit R1 cost and availability

The price of the device is something that has also attracted attention. For $199 you can purchase a Rabbit R1, which is not a high price for all the features it promises. This means that it has become an object of desire for many techies, early adopters and technology lovers in general.

Of course, buying it is not easy, since it is only for sale at the moment in the United States and the units on sale have been sold out, a total of 10,000. The company has assured that it is working to offer a second shipment in spring.

He has also indicated that it will go on sale in other countries before the end of the year. Among the countries in which Rabbit's R1 will be available are Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, according to the company. The price at which it will be sold when it arrives is unknown, but at the exchange rate, 199 dollars is about 180 euros.
