Upcoming releases: games August 2022

August tends to be, in almost all aspects, a rather “sluggish” month. Chosen by a large majority as the month to take vacations, half the world comes to a standstill and, consequently, many companies in all sectors (except tourism, of course) put their foot on the brake pedal, reducing their normal pace of activity to just a fraction of it. This is something that we also noticed this month, when we made our usual monthly summary of the most relevant game releases that will take place throughout this month of August 2022.

That said, just because the pace slows down does not mean it stops. Quite the contrary, we find some titles that we have been waiting for a long time nowand that have decided to debut this month to help us make the canÃcula, which this year has come especially vitaminized, more bearable. So, letâ¤?s try to freshen up a bit with this monthâ¤?s most notable game releases.

South of the Circle

  • Release date: August 3, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Halfway between a game and a film fiction, we are faced with one of those proposals in which we will have to face vital decisions that, in one way or another, will mark the future of our destiny. We will play the role of Peter, a Cambridge professor who is forced to land in the Antarctic during the Cold War, in a impasse in which past, present and future will be agitated in a cocktail shaker of emotions that could lead us to make decisions that, a priori, we thought we would have discarded.

Two Point Campus

  • Release date: August 9, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Leaked by mistake a little over a year ago, this is a title that we have been waiting with open arms for those of us who enjoyed Two Point Hospital and, even more so, those of us who have an indelible memory of the legendary Theme Hospital. Managing a university seems quite complex, what we would never have imagined is that it could also be tremendously absurd and, what is more important, insurmountable fun. However, donâ¤?t rely on the saying ⤽Learnings donâ¤?t take up spaceâ¤, on the contrary, you will have to measure the size of the classrooms to the millimeter.

Arcade Paradise

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Somewhere between the eighties and the nineties, before computers and video game consoles completely disembarked in homes, there were places where there was a concentration of entertainment that drove several generations crazy. I am talking, of course, about arcades. And what Arcade Paradise proposes is to put you in charge of one of these rooms from the first day (actually until now it was a laundromat) and, with your wit and your skills, get to turn it into the reference room. Along the way you will be able to add up to 35 arcades that, yes, you will be able to play inside the game.

Cult of the Lamb

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Announced at last year’s Gamescom, and despite not being a triple A, Cult of the Lamb was one of the titles that attracted the most attention at the event (and one of the ones I’ve been waiting for ever since). Behind a supposedly sweet and childish aesthetic, we actually find ourselves before a particularly sinister game in which we take control of a possessed lamb that, after avoiding death, and in payment to his savior, will create a sect that will worship said savior… and himself. But it will not be easy, because the land of false prophets is populated by many other cults that you will have to face in your struggle of faith (and / or ambition).

Rumbleverse

  • Release date: August 11, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X Series X/S

Who said that everything had already been invented in the Battle Royale genre? From the hand of Iron Galaxy Studios and with Epic Games as publisher (yes, precisely Epic, responsible for the most successful Battle Royale in history) comes Rumbleverse, a twist to the genre and that adds, to the action of these titles, a layer of humor that can give a breath of fresh air that, however, does not give up many of the mechanics and options of these titles.

Marvelâs Spider-Man Remastered

  • Release Date: August 12, 2022
  • Platforms: PC

We are not caught by surprise, as this release was already announced by Sony about two weeks ago. We are facing the long-awaited jump of Marvel’s Spider-Man, until now a PlayStation 4 exclusive title, to PC. In this title, eight years have already passed since Peter Parker donned the Spider-Man mask for the first time, but even so, New York is still the target of multiple villains that we will have to face relentlessly.

Madden NFL 23

  • Release date: August 19, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The retirement of NFL all-star Tom Brady was short-lived. After announcing in May that his elite sports career had come to an end, just over a month later he announced that, well, why not one more year? So, if you take the helm of a soccer team in Madden NFL 23, and even if you have to start small, you may end up managing a team that has the legend among its ranks. That alone is reason enough to give it a try.

Midnight Fight Express

  • Release date: August 23, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Sometimes we look for games with very brainy stories, that make us reflect and from which, at the end, we have extracted a learning that marks, in some sense, our lives. This is not the case, Midnight Fight Express offers a combat experience at a thousand per hour, with mechanics and cinematics that promise to be quite innovative. Whether with your bare hands or with all kinds of weapons, you will face hordes of enemies in an experience that aims to be a five-star anti-stress.

Saints Row

  • Release date: August 23, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The game that kicked off Gamescom 2021 is finally just a few weeks away from debuting at Epic Games. We find ourselves with the long-awaited reboot of a classic saga in which violence, irreverence and a great sense of humor lead us to Santo Ileso, an open world city in which, teaming up with Neenah, Kevin and Eli, you will take the first steps towards the creation of what will start as a gang, but will aspire to become a crime empire.

Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed

  • Release date: August 30, 2022
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Maybe I forgot to mention it at the time, but I found Destroy All Humans! to be one of the most complex and fun games of 2005, and I can say the same about its 2020 remake. Both Crypto, its protagonist, and the game itself, are pure irreverence, with a uniquely critical look at the 1950s (in the original) and 1960s (in this sequel). Kill those damn hippies, get revenge on the KGB, fool politicians who are used to being the ones who fool the people and, remember, your mission is to wipe out humanity and conquer this fucking planet.
