Today we welcome September and, as every month, we take a look at the most important game releases of the month. And it’s really noticeable that the summer break has come to an end, since we find an absolute avalanche of releases. In fact, I had a hard time making this selection, because I had to discard some titles to avoid that the selection (because in the end it is just that, a selection) would end up being endless.
As you will see, there are from huge releases to quite small but, in general, adorable indies (watch out, in this sense, to AK-xolotl), continuations of sagas, the remaster of a classic, a reinvented saga… September is not only a prolific month in number of games, but also in variety of them. So, and after remembering the mantra of not buying games in pre-sale, let’s take a look at this month’s contenders to keep us hooked for hours on end.
Enchanted Portals
- Release date: September 5
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
With a visual style that takes us, immediately, to the priceless Cuphead, it does not take from it only the aesthetics, but also the genre and part of the approach, because we are facing a platformer that promises to be challenging and crazy. We will take control of Bobby and Penny, two apprentice magicians who will learn, by force, what happens if you are not careful and, with a spell, you open a portal to a world full of intricate paths and bosses that will make it very difficult.
Starfield
- Release date: September 6
- Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X|S
One of the most anticipated games of recent times, on September 6 we will finally be able to start exploring the Universe created by Bethesda for Starfield, in what is their first new IP since a whopping 29 years ago. There is little to say that we haven’t already told you, so we can only wait for its release to see if the game finally lives up to the colossal expectations that have been built around it for years.
The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo
- Release date: September 7
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch
The Spanish Gammera Nest brings us a graphic adventure that recovers the point’n’click mechanics (a plus for the most nostalgic) that takes place in a surreal world (this indicates the studio, and the images shown of it correspond to the fingertips with that description), with 2D hand-drawn animations. Mr. Coo is trapped in a strange, meaningless world, and he needs your help to get out but, to do so, he must first rebuild himself… as long as the chaotic monsters, crazy robots and one-eyed ladies with whom he shares the limelight in such a peculiar place allow him to do so.
Warstride Challenges (currently in early access)
- Release date: September 7
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Available in early access since last year, Dream Powered Games and Focus Entertainment already consider it mature enough to come out of this preliminary phase, during which it has obtained quite positive ratings. This is a first-person shooter in its purest form, a festival of monsters, weapons and maps… and more monsters to blow up. Nothing particularly new, except a certain orientation to lovers of speedruns, you know to complete levels as quickly as possible. It will not disappoint fans of the genre.

There, in addition to taking care of our crops and interacting with the other inhabitants of the island, we will have to learn to carry out multiple tasks using magic.

Eh là qui va là
Gadget Inspector
Eh là ça va pas

If as soon as you saw this text you started humming the original tune, then we have a lot in common. Inspector Gadget – MAD Time Party brings back one of the most remembered and beloved children’s characters of the eighties, in an adventure in which we will meet again with the ever-skillful Sophie, the usually bewildered Chief Gontier and, of course, the evil MAD agents, all in the streets of Metropolis. Be it better or worse, what it will certainly be is a bath of nostalgia.
AK-xolotl

- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
Few creatures in the animal kingdom arouse more sympathy than Mexican axolotls, an amphibian that shares ties with the salamander, but cultivates quite a few more fans than the latter. Now, what would happen if you take a group of axolotls, give them an arsenal of weapons and set them to shoot? Well, you get one of the most argumentatively original and funniest roguelikes in recent times. Who said that the axolotl can’t become, even by force with an AK-47, the king of the jungle?
Lies of P
- Release date: September 19
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
We live excellent times for lovers of soulslike, you know, RPGs particularly challenging and very rich argumentatively, which are inspired (conceptually, not argumentatively, of course) in the magnum opus of Hidetaka Miyazaki, Dark Souls. However, this forces developers to find a way to stand out and, at least on paper, Round8 Studio and Neowiz would have succeeded, as this game takes us to the heart of the belle époque, in a dark, elegant and cruel story in which you will assume the role of Pinocchio himself.
Mortal Kombat 1
- Release date: September 19
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch
This is one of those franchises in which it is enough to hear the name to know what we are going to find. With this reboot of the saga, we move to a new universe created by Liu Kang, God of Fire, and we will find new mechanics and new characters and game modes, but also with the rhythm and excitement of always and, of course, with more than characteristic fatalities of the game, which were so controversial in its early days.

New characters such as Reed (based on Idris Elba), Myers, Songbird and Hansen, among others, build a plot that promises to be really interesting.
Train Sim World 4

- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Have you ever dreamed of getting behind the controls of some of the fastest and most modern trains in the world? Well, if you are part of the 1% who have answered yes (I know, it’s not a particularly exciting subject, although I am part of that small group), you are in luck, because the fourth installment of this veteran and renowned simulator promises to bring more engines, more maps, more freedom and also more realism than ever to the world of railway simulation.

After a long period of peace, the return of the Dark Lord will change everything, putting humans in danger again, yes, but also giving Dai the opportunity to become the hero he dreams of being.
Disney Speedstorm (currently in early access)

Put the fastest cars you can imagine, Disney and Pixar locations and characters in a shaker, and shake it hard as fast as you can. The result? Well, you can already imagine it, a translation of classics like Mario Kart to the extensive and varied Disney ecosystem, in a proposal in which you can improve your characters, customize your vehicles and compete both alone and with friends and strangers.
Gothic 1 Remake
- Release date: September xx
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
The original Gothic, from 2001, was a success with the public and critics, and is still fondly remembered by many of those who played it. This explains the arrival, more than two decades later, of this remake that, at the same time, preserves the best of the original title, including its elaborate storyline, but updates the visual and sound elements, as well as the combat system, to adapt it to the current context, while maintaining the essence of the classic mode.
Cocoon
- Release date: September 29
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
The first thing is to clarify that no, this game has nothing to do with the 1985 film. This, under normal conditions, would be a point against, but it loses all importance to know that we are talking about a new title signed by Jeppe Carlsen, the lead designer of LIMBO and INSIDE, two jewels of the indie ecosystem. In Cocoon we face an adventure full of worlds between which we can jump, because each of them will be inside a small orb that we carry on our back. This journey of exploration will lead us to encounter alien environments and biomechanical devices left behind by an ancient civilization. What secrets will they hide?
EA SPORTS FC 24
- Release date: September 29
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S Series, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
FIFA 23 marked the end of the mythical saga but, as we already knew before, EA would not abandon the world of soccer. Quite the contrary, there was going to be a renewal of the franchise that, from this year, would be renamed EA SPORTS FC. Well, this month will see the debut of the first installment of this evolution, in which the developer will try, at the same time, to offer a high level of innovation, but also an experience that is clearly recognizable for long-time fans. Will it succeed? We will confirm it in a few weeks.
