El Calafate is a town located in southern Argentina, in South America. Its name comes from a plant of the area, which gives exquisite characteristic fruits. It is located 316 km from Rio Gallegos and has as a frame the southern shore of Lake Argentino. For some years it has been one of the most visited destinations in Argentina and in 1981 UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site for being the gateway to the most beautiful glaciers in the world.

The climate in the area is dry and has 300 mm of rainfall per year. The maximum temperature in summer can reach 18 degrees and the minimum in winter is -2°. In the summer season the days are very long and invite you to enjoy them to the fullest. The sun rises at six in the morning and it gets dark at 11 PM at night.
The commercial activity of the city is concentrated in a few blocks. There the tourist finds everything he may need. Hotels, gastronomy, tourist agencies and stores specialized in regional products and souvenirs.

The Perito Moreno Glacier can be seen from the walkways, it is part of the Los Glaciares National Park.
