What PC I need to play Diablo IV: three configurations

Playing Diablo IV requires a powerful PC that meets certain specs and configurations. For those looking to purchase a computer, planning ahead and getting the right setup will make sure you get the most out of the game. Here, we will give an overview of three diverse PC configurations that are appropriate for playing Diablo IV.

Just yesterday we were able to confirm the requirements for Diablo IV, and in the end the best predictions have been fulfilled, because it is going to be such an affordable title that it will we will be able to play it even on older computers and not very powerful by today’s standards. However, we must keep in mind that the requirements we saw are not equivalent to the optimal or ideal level to play it with maximum quality and in high resolutions.

I know that many of you still have doubts about this topic, so I wanted to shape this guide in which we are going to see. three complete and different PC configurations that will allow us to play Diablo IV in different resolutions, with different quality settings and a good level of performance. It is important to keep in mind that this game is going to have an important dependency on the GPU (the requirements clearly point in that direction), so if you need to upgrade your computer, prioritize that component.

For example, if you have a quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM your main goal should be to get there, at least at the performance level of a GeForce GTX 970 or a Radeon RX 570.. In case you have a dual-core, quad-threaded processor it is likely that the game will run well if it has a high IPC, but I can’t guarantee it, so as a minimum we should stick to quad-core and IPC at the level of Haswell or Zen.

Diablo IV

Preliminary considerations: the requirements of Diablo IV

These are the basis we have taken to elaborate the three configurations we have chosen, since in the end they give us the necessary starting point to get an idea of the performance we can expect. In this sense, Blizzard said that the minimum requirements will allow us to. play at 720p, low quality and 30 FPS.while the recommended ones will give us the possibility of playing in 1080p, although it did not specify any level of quality or smoothness.

Given that a GeForce GTX 970, which is the recommended graphics card, performs more than twice as well as a GeForce GTX 660which is the minimum requirement, I think it is most likely that with it we can play without problems in 1080p with cmedium or high quality, and with a rate between 40 and 60 frames per second.depending on the graphic load of each scene.

With those two starting points we have it very easy to shape three different configurations with which to run Diablo IV with all the guarantees on 1080p, 1440p and 2160p.. Please note that we are not yet clear about the real impact that ray tracing will have on this game, so it is difficult to establish a specific recommendation. However, I will also leave you in each case an estimate of the minimum that we will have to comply with.

PC to play Diablo IV in 1080p with maximum quality and 60 FPS.

  • Windows 10 64-bit as operating system. We can get OEM licenses for about 12 euros.
  • GIGABYTE H410M S2H V2 motherboard for 66.99 euros.
  • Intel Core i3-10105F processor (quad-core and eight threads) for €72.75.
  • 16 GB dual-channel RAM at 2,666 MHz for €50.99.
  • 1 TB WD Blue SN570 SSD for 64.99 euros.
  • GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 graphics card. Available second-hand from €130 and €120, respectively.
  • NOX Hummer Alpha 500 watt 80 Plus Bronze NOX Hummer Alpha power supply for €39.99.

The total cost of this equipment would be 428.71 euros with a 6 GB GTX 1660 not including chassis (we can find functional and nice models for 30 or 40 euros).

With that investment we will be able to enjoy Diablo IV with maximum quality in 1080p resolution and we will not have problems to maintain 60 FPS. We exceeded the CPU requirement by farbecause we have a processor with more threads and a much higher IPC, we have 16 GB of DDR4 at 2,666 MHz (a Core i5-4670K would be limited to DDR3), we have a PCIe Gen3 SSD and we have a GeForce GTX 1660, which is 25% more powerful than the GTX 970. and has, in addition, 2 GB more graphics memory.

This configuration would admit many variations. For example, an older computer equipped with an Core i7-6700K and a GeForce GTX 1070. would also exceed the CPU and GPU requirements by a wide margin, and would offer higher performance because that graphics card is more powerful than the GTX 1660.

If we wanted to play with ray tracing we would need at least one GeForce RTX 2060 or a Radeon RX 6600. I’m not clear on the impact of this on the final performance of Diablo IV, but both should be able to move it with a minimum of fluidity in 1080p.

PC to play Diablo IV in 1440p with maximum quality and 60 FPS.

  • Windows 10 64-bit as operating system. We can get OEM licenses for about 12 euros.
  • GIGABYTE B450M S2H motherboard for €60.75 plus €3.95 shipping and handling.
  • Ryzen 5 5500 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads for €108.90.
  • 16 GB dual-channel RAM at 3,200 MHz for €48.99.
  • 1 TB WD Blue SN570 SSD for 64.99 euros.
  • GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card for €369.95 or Radeon RX 6600 for €259.90.
  • EVGA 600 W2 80 Plus White 600 watt EVGA 600 W2 80 Plus White power supply for €54.69.

This equipment would cost, not including the chassis, €. €614.17 configured with a Radeon RX 6600, which is the better option of the two for price-performance value if we are not concerned about ray tracing. We have not included the cost of the chassis either, but it would be between €30 and €40.

With that configuration Diablo IV should run without any problem at 1440p and maximum quality with total fluidity, since we exceed the recommended requirements very comfortably. We have a processor with a much higher IPC than the Core i5-4670K, and also has 6 cores and 12 threads. The Radeon RX 6600 is 92% more powerful than the GeForce GTX 970.so the performance difference is huge, and it explains in itself why with this rig we will have no problems at 1440p and maximum quality.

A configuration with older components, for example a Core i7-8700 and a GeForce GTX 1080 Tiwould also fall into this category, as this graphics card is in fact slightly more powerful than a Radeon RX 6600.

If we are going to play with ray tracing enabled I think the minimum level in this case would be in a. GeForce RTX 3060 or on a Radeon RX 6700 XT.as the RDNA2 architecture performs worse than Ampere with ray tracing.

PC to play Diablo IV in 2160p with maximum quality and 60 FPS.

  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card for €429.95 or Radeon RX 6700 XT for €419.89.
  • EVGA 600 W2 80 Plus White 600 watt EVGA 600 W2 80 Plus White power supply for €54.69.

We can assemble this equipment for 784.22 euros. As in the previous case, we have not included the chassis in the total price of this configuration, but again we could get an acceptable one for between €30 and €40, so it does not represent a significant increase in the selling price.

As you can see we have kept all the components from the previous configuration for a very simple reason, and that is that with the increase in resolution neither CPU nor RAM demands are increased, so a Ryzen 5 5500 and those 16 GB of RAM at 3,200 MHz are enough for us. GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is 34% more powerful than the Radeon RX 6600.and the Radeon RX 6700 XT outperforms it by 36%, although the NVIDIA solution performs better with ray tracing.

This equipment will allow us to play Diablo IV without any problem at maximum quality and 4K resolution. If we have an older PC configured with, for example, a GeForce RTX 2080 SuperIf you want to play it with the same settings, you can also play it with the same settings without any problem.

In case we are concerned about the ray tracingI believe that in this case the minimum level is going to be at one GeForce RTX 3070 or a Radeon RX 6800 XT.although as I said before it will depend on how demanding it ends up being, something that is still not clear to me.

And what about the intermediate configurations?

I think it is important to make this digression before closing this guide, since the configurations we have given you would also serve to play in higher resolutions reducing graphic quality. Thus, with the 1080p rig we will be able to play in 1440p by adjusting the graphics quality and maybe sacrificing a little bit of fluidity, and with the 1440p configuration we will be able to play in 4K doing the same, reducing graphic quality and assuming a lower fluidity.

In the case of popular graphics cards such as the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB and the Radeon RX 580 8GB.both should be able to run at 1080p at high or very high quality, but may not be able to maintain a fully stable 60 FPS with Diablo IV at maximum. The GeForce RTX 2060 6GB and Radeon RX 5700which are also two graphics cards that are still very popular, should have no problems at 1440p as long as we adjust the graphics quality level.

When we go up to 4K the demands multiply, but seeing how undemanding Diablo IV is on the hardware level I’m sure that with a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or a Radeon RX 5700 XT it should already be possible to play it at that resolution by reducing the graphics quality.

For your convenience as an extra help, and as a point of referenceI leave you a series of important keys that will help you to make an estimation of how your PC will perform with Diablo IV. If you have any doubt you can leave it in the comments and I will help you to solve it.

  • Any Core i5 4000 series or Ryzen 3 1000 series. would fall under the recommended requirements, there would only be a minor difference in the operating frequencies.
  • The game should run fine with 8 GB of RAM.but to play the game with all the guarantees it is better to have 16 GB of RAM.
  • The GeForce GTX 960, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon RX 6400 are above the minimum requirements, but below the recommended requirements.
  • Blizzard has strongly recommended using an SSD.. This is likely due to the open-world approach that we will be able to roam freely, so the game should run on an HDD but we will most likely experience lag and popping issues.
  • If you would like to upgrade a very old PC to play Diablo IV. your best options are the second-hand GeForce GTX 970 and Radeon RX 570, because they are very cheap and will open the door directly to the game as long as you meet the rest of its requirements.
  • In case your PC doesn’t meet all, or almost all, of the requirements, the best option may be to buy a new PC outright, unless it is worthwhile to reuse some of the components from your old PC.
