After two quarters in a row with bad results, in which it had lost millions of users, Netflix finally seems to have come out of the bad moment having added up to 2.4 million new subscribers during the third quarter of 2022.
Following the demise of Stadia, Netflix could develop its own video game platform in the cloud
This means reaching the 223 million users worldwide. The company also maintains optimistic forecasts, and expects that during the last quarter of 2022 they will be able to add another 4.5 million new subscribers globally. This would be a significant figure, but it is almost half of the 8.3 million new subscribers who came to Netflix in the same period last year, which would imply a considerable slowdown in the growth rate of the platform.
But despite this growth the streaming platform is not considering changing the plans it has for the future. One of the most drastic changes that is coming has to do with the habit of sharing accounts that its users have, something that Netflix wants to end from the beginning of the year 2023. To this end, it has already presented its “Profile Transfer” option, which makes it easier to move usage data, preferences and content lists to a new account, and which it wants users to use to have their own profile.
On the other hand, Netflix considers video games a fundamental part of its strategy. Along with the announcements of new Netflix video games for mobile, which would reach fifty titles in the coming months, the company could go a step further by creating its own video game platform in the Cloud..
The move would come even despite the recent closure of Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming platform. In its case Netflix proposes an additional model, alternative to the video games it already offers (and those it will incorporate in the future) since, as explained by Mike Verdu, Netflix’s vice president of gaming, unlike Netflix’s current video games that can only be used from mobile devices its Cloud gaming platform would also enable use them from smart TVs and computers.
