Television and movies are two great passions in modern society. Thus, actors and actresses become icons full of fame and awards for their performances. However, many times inanimate and mechanical objects are famous. There are many movies and series where cars are also protagonists. Today they are remembered as true icons that transcended the actors themselves. In some cases the cars turned the films or series into true legends and are today cult objects.

Some cars are protagonists and true legends of the silver screen
Perhaps the most famous case is the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future, a true blockbuster. More than 35 years after its first appearance, the DeLorean is still valid through several generations. A car that despite being made of stainless steel, was a sales failure. However, the Back to the Future saga elevated it to the category of legend.

Others of the most iconic are James Bond’s supercars. Perhaps the most remembered was the Aston Martin DB5 used by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Operation Thunder. The beauty of its lines, the mechanical perfection and the special effects made this vehicle the most desired of the 007 saga.
Similar to 007, Batman’s cars also became cult objects. To the beloved Batmobile used by Adam West in the 1960s, we can add the one driven by Christian Bale in Batman Begins and his subsequent films. The Tumbler version of the Batmobile is a mechanical jewel, although not for every pocket.
Many more also achieved fame
The late ’60s Dodge Charger was the star of The Dukes of Hazard. Who remembers the actors’ names. Although everyone remembers well the car that made world TV history, the General Lee. And not only did he appear in the famous TV series, but Dom Toretto, played by Vin Diesel in All Gas, drove a Charger.
In Ghostbusters an old ambulance became legend. A 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor became the Ectomobile. The craze it aroused was such that on the occasion of the release of the video game, a group of fans restored it completely.
In the 60s, the “antics” of a Volkswagen Beetle delighted young and old, Herbie. A clever and capricious car that became world famous through 5 films. Disney’s films are still relevant today.

Another intelligent automobile was the protagonist of The Incredible Car, the famous Kitt. It was a black Pontiac Firebird equipped with technological advances capable of communicating with the protagonist. Also a Ford Thunderbird was the iconic convertible used by Thelma & Louise in another cult movie. And there are many more, such as the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter, the Black Beauty from the Green Hornet, the Ford Explorer from Jurassik Park and many others.
It’s not always movies or TV series that are remembered for their human actors. But when cars are protagonists, they become unforgettable and are part of the collective memory until they become metal legends.
