Why Elon Musk wants to buy Openai

Elon Musk wants to get Openai, the creative company of the most used artificial intelligence today, Chatgpt. The manager, owner of Tesla and the social network X but also of the artificial intelligence company XAI, leads an investment consortium that has offered 97.4 billion dollars for the purchase of the company.

The investor consortium is composed of XAI, Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, and Ari Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor, among others. The offer made is one more step in the confrontation that Elon Musk maintains with Sam Altman – Openai – since the company began together in 2015 as a non -profit entity to develop AI for the benefit of humanity. But a lot has passed since then and Musk left the project in 2019 and created its own company.

For his part, Altman created a subsidiary with profit that allowed him to develop Chatgpt thanks to investors such as Microsoft. Given this situation, Elon Musk sue Openai a few months ago for having become a profit company and they have never agreed on the course that the company should take.

Now the manager wants to get her by force, but her offer has been fully rejected by Sam Altman, who has pointed out: “No, thanks, but we buy you Twitter for 9,740 million dollars, if you want.” To this, Musk has responded “Scam Altman”, making a word game with the name of the Openai owner and the word “scam” (which means scam in English).

According to Bloomberg, the price you are willing to pay – for the moment – Elon Musk and its investor consortium, It is much lower than what would really have on the OpenAI marketwhich is around 300,000 million dollars. Hence Altman’s phrase offering much less money on Twitter than it really cost Elon Musk (he offers 10% of what he offers for OpenAi).

Elon Musk’s goal with the purchase attempt would be to return OpenAi to its origins, as a non -profit organization, focusing on the safety of AI and investigating so that its development benefits humanity, becoming an open access platform so that everyone can benefit from their developments.

At present, Openai is in the process of becoming a traditional company, moving away from the objectives of the Foundation. But we must also bear in mind that XAI, Elon Musk’s company, does seek profit, which contradicts what he wants to do with Openai.

“If Sam Altman and the current Board of Directors of OpenAI, Inc. have the intention of becoming a for profit corporation, it is vital that the beneficial organization receives fair compensation for what its leaders are taking away: control over the More transformative technology of our time, ”says Marc Toberoff, a lawyer who represents investors led by Elon Musk.

“It’s time for Openai to return to the open source and focus again on security. We will make sure that happens, ”establishes the lawyer in a statement. This means that the war is open, and that the AI soap opera will continue to offer new chapters in the coming weeks. We will be attentive.
